Rev. John H. Pomeroy - co-pastor

John H. Pomeroy (Jake) grew up in Birmingham, MI and went to seminary at The Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. He has served as a Campus Minister and as a church pastor, teaches at Claremont School of Theology and is a Senior Associate with the Kaleidoscope Institute, a diversity consulting group based in Los Angeles. He lives in La Crescenta with his wife Marlene and two dogs.

rev. Marlene W. Pomeroy - Co-Pastor

Marlene W. Pomeroy was raised in the Midwest and moved to Southern California when she was in elementary school. She attended college at Duke University and then received her Master of Divinity degree from Duke Divinity School. Marlene has served churches in Charlottesville, VA; Lynnfield, MA and has been serving with her husband as the Co-Pastor of the First Congregational Church of Pasadena since Fall of 1998. She was drawn to ministry to support others in their spiritual journeys and to offer healing work to our world through the Church. Marlene has been teaching yoga for over ten years and also loves spending time outside with her dogs, going to movies, reading books and traveling any chance she can get! She enjoys the company of her two grown children and her husband Jake.

Nina Kung - Office Administrator

Nina enjoys yoga on Saturday mornings in Santa Monica beach with 70-80 yogis, and plays tennis on Fridays with friends  in Almansor Park, Alhambra!

Born in Ligao, Albay, Philippines, Nina studied Secretarial and Business Administration at Feati University and at Far Eastern University in Manila.  Married a gentleman from Shanghai, China, had two boys and  three girls and settled in Hongkong for 25 years. During her time there, she learned French,  Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, and Chinese cooking.  She also volunteered at the Catholic Center through the Good Shepherd Sisters to assist, support, and house abused domestic helpers from The Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand.

In 1988, Nina’s family immigrated to USA. Nina worked for a few years in the Caltech’s Athenaeum as assistant to catering coordinator before moving on to work at the FCC for 22 years.

Connie Washburn - Musical Director

Music Director/Pianist Connie Washburn holds a Bachelor of Music degree in education and has been bringing music to FCC UCC for over 10 years. In addition, she maintains a private Sierra Madre piano and vocal coaching studio, and accompanies various singers and choirs throughout the region.

Sallie McNair - Facilities Liaison

Sallie McNair, hired earlier this year for her part time services, is currently representing the church and actively communicating and coordinating as Building Liaison and Event Coordinator for the FCC community. Her responsibilities entail designing, planning and staffing all special events which include, festivals, luncheons, concerts, fundraisers and an annual Scholarship Tea.

In this role she is responsible for maintaining tenant relations, overseeing Sunday worship services and events to follow, interviewing new hires, negotiating with vendors, purchasing supplies, submitting quarterly reports and staff payroll.

Prior to obtaining her current position in February of 2019, Sallie was an onsite property manager for 17 years with FCC.

She has real estate background and has assisted in event designing at these various venues: Cal Poly Pomona University, the Rose Bowl, Ambassador College Performing Arts and the Pasadena City Centennial event.

ELLEN GADBERRY - CREATIVE EXPRESSION RESOURCE PERSON

Ellen writes curriculum for our church school teachers as well as designs and creates special events for all ages. She lives in Atlanta and has an education, library and art background. She also has a certificate in Spirituality from Candler School  of Theology in Atlanta. She has been working and volunteering in churches for decades. Ellen travels to Los Angeles annually to participate in a retreat or event.
