WHO WE ARE

IMG_4597.jpg

We are a church community of faithful and caring persons who value faith development, hospitality and justice.  Our identity is rooted in the compassionate love of Jesus and we endeavor to live out our callings as God’s faithful and loving people. In 2018 we sold our long -time home at Walnut and Los Robles in Pasadena, and now lease space within the First United Methodist Church.  We come from different communities in the L.A. basin and have different backgrounds, careers and family structures. We see ourselves as theologically and socially progressive, with warm friendships, education and outreach activities each month in addition to our weekly worship.

The United Church of Christ, our parent denomination, contains over 5,000 churches across the United States, communities of Christians that focus on diversity, spirituality, and social action. Since 1957, UCC has been committed to living out our faith as a means of transforming both our personal lives and our communities. For more information about UCC, please visit their website.

JUSTICE AND PEACE

IMG_9377.jpg

In keeping with the statements of General Synod XV and XVI regarding the justice and peace priority of our denomination, and in conjunction with our National United Church of Christ Justice and Peace Ministry, our congregation voted in 1987 to join the wider network of Just Peace Churches.

We committed ourselves to address the issues of economic justice, social justice and peace at all levels of Congregational life…and in the world.

The UCC Justice and Peace Ministry is a vehicle to integrate faith with action and heal brokenness with each other, in our congregation, in our immediate community, nationally and globally.

As part of the UCC our mandate is to participate in creating a society with a vision of sharing and community; advocate for low income and marginalized people; advocate for children by providing food, shelter, health care and education; eradicate discrimination because of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, religion or sexual orientation; shape foreign policies which guarantee human rights and sustainable development; support the stewardship of our planet and the integrity of creation.

For upcoming activities in support of justice and peace, please call the church office at (626) 795-0696 or e-mail us for more information.

OPEN AND AFFIRMING (LGBTQIA)

Since 1993 the First Congregational Church of Pasadena is an Open and Affirming congregation within the United Church of Christ … affirming, involving, and ministering to and with the lesbian, gay, bisexual, intersex and transgender community.

At our church we do not consider ourselves as members of separate advocacy groups, but instead see ourselves as one community that shares a number of concerns and issues that we are all called to recognize, learn about and support.

Please feel free to e-mail us for more information about how we carry out our commitment as an Open and Affirming congregation within the United Church of Christ.

FCC Pasadena was one of three honorees at the annual "Friends in Deed" Fund-Raiser to thank us for our years of service to and support of this interfaith organization that provides services to help homeless and at-risk neighbors rebuild their lives.
